Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo (1977)

Let’s talk hair shall we?

The past two summers I’ve stayed with a lightly feather Farrah Fawcett style. I’ve wanted to change my hairstyle to something more mid-century, even rockabilly inspired.

The top picture is of me taken in 2007 when I had bangs. The two middle pictures are of styles I ultimately want. The bottom picture is the style that I’ve chosen. I would prefer the two middle styles but chose the bangs because my hair is too thin and soft to wear into victory rolls every day. If I were to put my hair up every day it would take me an hour just to get ready for work.

So I’ve decided to go with the more Betty Page-eque bangs which is slightly different from how I wore my hair in 2007. I’m not going to go too short with my bangs because I still want the option of curling them up once in awhile.

As for colour; I have decided on milk chocolate brown. My hair is still damaged from last year when a new-to-me hairdresser over-processed my hair with peroxide while adding highlights. It resulted in most of the bleached hair to break off which means my hair feels even thinner than normal.

I’m looking forward to wearing a vintage/rockabilly inspired hairstyle. I think it really suits my personality and change is always a good thing.

The evolution of my hair the past year. The flicks and feathers from last summer have grown out. It’s gotten blonder. My goal isn’t to go blonde but to work through honey-coloured blonde highlights through my hair. In 2007 my hair was dyed black.

As I get older I try to stay far away from those really dark shades just because they make me look tired. Dark shades are definitely best worn by people in their early twenties. I had a picture of my hair in 2007 but couldn’t find one at a good resolution. I’m sure it’s floating around in my murky blog archives.

A good-for-you dose of 70’s inspiration. I love it all. Some new, some old. It doesn’t matter, it’s all good stuff.

Some 1970’s inspiration for you this gorgeous, blue sky morning

Some awesome 70’s inspiration for this morning brought to you by the years 1972 and 1973. Enjoy.

If you’re curious about the Clairol Herbal Essence shampoo; it was my favourite scent when I was little. Avon also used to make some bath products with pictures of deer and rabbits on them that I also loved. Long story short, Clairol stopped making the original Herbal Essence shampoo and bath products in 1991. I miss the scent; it was really unique.

Orange you glad I posted these?

A collection of beauty ads from the 1970’s. Yesterday I had read on Twitter that women in the 70’s looked hilarious and ridiculous. Really? I disagree completely. The beauty standards of the 70’s were all about highlighting natural beauty. Today’s beauty standards are all about plastic surgery and extreme unnaturalness. Modern standards of beauty are definitely something but in no way are they beautiful. Mostly, they’re creepy; modern women look creepy.
