Fortune Tellers and Fancies
But we had some good men, and that of all persuasions and opinions, whose discourses were full of terror, who spoke nothing but dismal things; and as they brought the people together with a kind of horror, sent them away in tears, prophesying nothing but evil tidings, terrifying the people with the apprehensions of being utterly destroyed, not guiding them, at least not enough, to cry to...

Mind Tricks
(image via contagions)
The apprehensions of the people were likewise strangely increased by the error of the times; in which, I think, the people, from what principle I cannot imagine, were more addicted to prophecies and astrological conjurations, dreams, and old wives’ tales than ever they were before or since.
Another ran about naked, except a pair of drawers about his waist, crying day...

Here’s an imaginative short film This Is Where We Live produced in stop-motion by an insane bunch of animators in 4th Estate!

Strange Days
(image via William & Mary Barrett Dyer)
While the fears of the people were young, they were increased strangely by several odd accidents which, put altogether, it was really a wonder the whole body of the people did not rise as one man and abandon their dwellings, leaving the place as a space of ground designed by Heaven for an Akeldama, doomed to be destroyed from the face of the...

GPOY
(could not find image source)
This is how I’ll be spending my entire Summer. Now that I’m almost debt free, I feel a lot more relaxed, and have taken care of tying up loose ends. Besides work, and working out, and time allocated for knitting and crochet, I have a lot of free time.
Also, one of the best ways to save money is to read. If you’re wondering what I’m reading,...

Streets of Tears and Misery
that any should have hearts so hardened in the midst of such a calamity as to rob and steal, yet certain it is that all sorts of villainies, and even levities and debaucheries, were then practised in the town as openly as ever — I will not say quite as frequently, because the numbers of people were many ways lessened.
But in the whole the face of things, I say, was much altered; sorrow and...

Plague for the Poor
image via tsiosophy
But we perceived the infection kept chiefly in the out-parishes, which being very populous, and fuller also of poor, the distemper found more to prey upon than in the city, as I shall observe afterwards.
We perceived, I say, the distemper to draw our way, viz., by the parishes of Clarkenwell, Cripplegate, Shoreditch, and Bishopgate; which last two parishes joining to...

Dark Clouds in Coffee
(image via cafe marocchino)
The other day it was -13C when I walked to work. Today it was a mostly sunny 16C. The madness of the weather here in Alberta is something to behold.
My favourite book of all time is The Story of Philosophy by Will Durant. I listened to that while I walked to work. I feel relieved that the cold seems to be gone for at least five months. I hope to make the most out of...

The 80s in May
(image via Terry Johnson)
Listening: Joise Cotton; The Go-Go’s; and The Flirts. I also started a 1980s playlist on Youtube. It has some 1970s mixed in but that’s only natural.
Reading: The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. So close to being done. I re-started from Week 9. I hope to be done by the end of May.
Watching: I watched Valley Girl at lunch. Tonight is game 1 between...

Half Dozen

Banishing Black: from about 2005 until 2012 I almost exclusively wore black or grey. I still like a soft, sweatshirt grey but have banished black from my wardrobe. I may have a few black tees in the mix but everything else is gone. I’m attracted to white and colour now. I think it’s a reaction from staying with such a dark palette for so long. My new neutral...

Intermission
Listening: The Red Sox game using the MLB At Bat app.
Reading: I didn’t spend any time reading. I spend the night working on some knitting and crochet swatches and watching the Canucks game.
Doing: watching more Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Also, now that I’m all healed up, I started the Couch 2 5K running program again. Tonight is Day 2. I even downloaded a free app to...

Listening: Soundtrack for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Also, Chaos by James Gleick.
Reading: I went to the gym last night so didn’t do any reading.
Doing: watching the very first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oh the memories… I have this memory of first watching Buffy with my mom in a hotel room. This would’ve been around 1998. I’m not...

Never Tell Me The Odds
(image via 4 Wheel Drive)
Listening: Soundtrack for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Also, I did re-start Chaos by James Gleick. I listened to that on the way to work this morning.
Reading: I put away the Chemistry for Dummies and picked up Algebra Survival Guide: A Conversational Guide for the Thoroughly Befuddled. I’m not very good at math so I’ve decided just to work through some...

I Suggest a New Strategy, R2
Listening: the hum of my work computer. I’m busy reading so I haven’t been listening to any music or audiobooks. I will later but it will probably be a metal/rock mix from 2007 which includes some Taproot and Chevelle. Oh the good ol’ days…
Reading: Chemistry for Dummies. I’m also reading Popular Mechanics (Apr 2013). My reading has stalled the past few days because...

Han Solo: That bad, huh?

There's Nothing To See. I Used To Live Here, You...
Listening: somewhere in my archives is a Led Zeppelin playlist I created about four years ago. I’ve evolved since then so today I’m building a better, stronger, faster Led Zeppelin playlist.
Reading: Chemistry for Dummies. I’m also reading Popular Mechanics (Apr 2013). My reading has stalled the past few days because I’ve been working on my Ultimate Nerdy Bucket List. Hey,...

Great post from Wil Wheaton. Definitely worth checking out.
thegeekentitlement asked: I think that in terms of making informed choices in home designing we will always be caught choosing between functionality and aesthetics. However designer Charles Eames was quoted saying, "I have never been forced to accept compromises but I have willingly accepted constraints." This may help you or trouble you more. I hope its the former. (:
